Mr. Kanani founded the Law Office of Benjamin Kanani in 2017 when he decided to focus his legal career entirely on family law issues, such as Child Custody, Visitation (Parenting Time), Child and Spousal Support, Divorce, Legal Separation, Prenuptial Agreements, High Asset Divorce, and both Domestic Violence and Civil Harassment Restraining Orders. His ability to understand and empathize with clients going through stressful periods in their lives, combined with his knowledge and understanding of the law and courtroom, enables Mr. Kanani to provide clients with a custom-made strategy and case plan for their legal dispute that fits within their goals and expectations.
Before focusing his practice on family law, Benjamin Kanani first began his legal career practicing civil litigation and criminal law in the city of Los Angeles before forming the Law Office of Benjamin Kanani, APC in 2017. During this time, Mr. Kanani gained invaluable courtroom experience, which has contributed to his success in handling high-conflict family custody disputes and complex divorces.
Mr. Kanani is a member of the State Bar of California and Beverly Hills Bar Association. He also volunteers on the Pro Bono Panel of the non-profit Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law, providing limited scope and/or full representation to low-income persons in the greater Los Angeles area. In part in recognition of his work and commitment to the Center and the community, Ben was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2019 and received the Wiley W. Manuel Pro Bono Services Certificate from the California Lawyers Association in 2021.
After graduating from Loyola Law School and being admitted into the California State Bar in December of 2011, Mr. Kanani began his career at a mid-sized civil litigation firm in Downtown Los Angeles, with an emphasis on complex environmental litigation, regulatory law, and business disputes. Starting in 2014, Mr. Kanani then transitioned into criminal law, desiring to spend more time in a courtroom and interacting directly with clients facing issues that were not only financial. It was during this time that he began representing clients facing restraining orders, which became his initial introduction and avenue to family law. Over the next few years, Mr. Kanani felt something was missing in the Los Angeles market, with many family law attorneys having limited trial and courtroom experience and those that did often charging extremely high rates, performing unnecessary work, or taking an unnecessarily litigious approach. This led him to focus entirely on family law exclusively and start his firm to provide high-quality representation tailored to a specific client’s needs while still litigating efficiently and aggressively when necessary.
Although the Law Office of Benjamin Kanani, APC is in the city of Beverly Hills Mr. Kanani services families anywhere in California, including Los Angeles County, Orange County, Riverside County, San Bernardino County, San Diego County, and Ventura County.
